NEW FACES IN NEW PLACES
SPD recently hired Dispatcher Kathleen Ptak as the newest member of our Communications team.  Dispatcher Ptak brings previous Communications experience to our police department from her prior service with the Twinsburg and Aurora police departments.  We welcome her aboard serving our community here in Streetsboro. -- Posted August 18, 2010.



RETIREMENT - DISPATCHER "JUNE" JOHNSON
On July 25, 2010, friends and colleagues gathered to recognize Dispatcher Elizabeth "June" Johnson, who is retiring after several years of work, including the last nine (9) years serving with the City of Streetsboro Police Department.  We wish June and her husband all the best as they enjoy their retirement years together, and we thank her for her service to our community.  -- Posted July 26, 2010. 
 
 
 
 
2010 DARE GRADUATION
On May 26, the 2010 DARE Graduation ceremony took place at Streetsboro High School.  This year, approximately 175 5th grade students graduated from the DARE program, which is instructed by Officer James Wagner.  2010 was the 18th consecutive year for the DARE program in our community.  -- Posted June 7, 2010.
 

    
 
 
 
   SPD OFFICER RECEIVES LIFE SAVING AWARD
Officer Aaron Coates received the police department's Life Saving Award for his efforts last month in keeping an injured man alive until EMS and life flight arrived by applying pressure to a severe neck injury. The man had been seriously injured in a mechanical accident while working on a car. Officer Coates was recognized at a city council meeting on May 24, 2010.  --- Posted May 25, 2010.

SPD MEMBER RECOGNIZED BY PORTAGE COUNCIL FOR THE PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE
Sgt. Andrew Suvada has been recognized in the law enforcement category by the Portage Council for the Prevention of Violence to receive a local hero award.  The Council consists of a collaborative group of people from various organizations in the community that promotes awareness and education about violence prevention and making a difference in the lives of crime victims.  -- Posted April 21, 2010.
 

 

PINWHEELS FOR PREVENTION  HIGHLIGHTS CHILD ABUSE IN PORTAGE COUNTY

In conjunction with the Childrens Advocacy Center and their campaign to highlight child abuse in Portage county, Officer James Wagner and several students from Streetsboro High School participated in the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign.  1,310 colorful pinwheels were placed at the city center of SR#14 and SR# 43 to visually highlight the number of cases of child abuse reported in Portage county in 2009.  -- Posted April 21, 2010.  

 

 
 
 
 SPD OFFICERS RECOGNIZED BY AMERICAN RED CROSS
On Saturday March 27, 2010 Sgt. Darin Powers and Officer Patricia Wain were recognized by the American Red Cross at their Hometown Heroes breakfast held at NEOUCOM.  Sgt. Powers and Officer Wain were recognized for their efforts responding to a call for service in Twin Lakes and assisting a drowning woman in the process.  Congratulations to both officers.  -- Posted April 5, 2010.   
 
 
 
PROMOTION TO SERGEANT
On Wednesday March 18, 2010, Mayor Art Scott swore in Andrew Suvada to the rank of Sergeant.  Sgt. Suvada has served with the Streetsboro Police Department since 1994, and he fills a Sgt. vacancy that was created in October 2009.  Congratulations to Sgt.  NEW OFFICERS SWORN IN

On Thursday January 28, 2010, Mayor Art Scott swore in the newest members of the City of Streetsboro Police Department.  Sworn in were Joshua Bartholomew, Stanley Siedlecki and Christopher Staple.  Congratulations to our new officers as they begin their career serving the Streetsboro community.  -- Posted January 28, 2010.

SHOP WITH A COP - 2009

FIRST MERIT BANK ROBBED.  SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On Thursday November 19, 2009 a subject entered the First Merit Bank branch on SR# 14 and passed a note to a teller demanding money or he would shoot her.  Bank employees obtained the subject's vehicle license plate number and description, and he was apprehended a short time later on I-480 by Twinsburg PD.  He is now facing charges for multiple bank robberies.  -- Posted November 20, 2009.

 

 

 

 

COMMUNITY RELATIONS EVENT WITH HOME DEPOT

On Saturday October 17, 2009 the Streetsboro Police Department  participated in a community relations event in conjunction with the Streetsboro Home Depot and Portage County Homeland Security.  DARE Officer James Wagner fingerprinted children at the store and provided information regarding the DARE program and our police department to customers throughout the day.   -- Posted October 24, 2009.

        

 

PORTAGE COUNTY MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING (MADD) RECOGNITION

On Thursday, October 22, 2009, Portage County MADD held their annual law enforcement recognition dinner.  Officer Chris Petro and Sgt. Troy Beaver were recognized by MADD for their contributions to aggressive enforcement of Ohio's DUI laws. OFFICER SWORN IN

On Thursday, October 15th, Acting Mayor Art Scott swore in Ryan Wolf as the newest member of the City of Streetsboro Police Department.  Ptl. SPD PARTICIPATES IN COUNTY "OVER THE LIMIT UNDER ARREST" AWARENESS EVENT

On Wed. September 2nd, in conjunction with the Portage County Safer Communities Coalition, SPD participated in a community awareness event held at Giant Eagle in Ravenna to publicize the increased law enforcement crackdown over the Labor Day week-end for intoxicated drivers.  Thank you to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for supplying food for this community event.  -- Posted September 4, 2009.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IN CONJUNCTION WITH TARGET

On August 4, 2009, the Streetsboro Police Department, in conjunction with Target, conducted a National Night Out event at the Streetsboro Target store on State Rt. 303.    Officer James Wagner and Officer Tricia Wain fingerprinted children, and K-9 Officer Coates and Bo were on hand as well.  The Streetsboro Fire Department, the Portage County Sheriffs Department, and the Portage County Office of Emergency Management also contributed to this event.  Thank you to all who participated. -- Posted August 4, 2009.

    

 

 

SPD CONDUCTS SAFETY LAND PROGRAM

From June 8-12, 2009 Officer Jason Fogleman along with the Streetsboro Fire Department & Streetsboro Parks & Recreation conducted the annual Safety Land program for pre-kindergarten age children here in town.  Over 50 children participated in the program this year.  This valuable program is geared towards teaching basic safety as well as stranger awareness to young children. -- Posted June 10, 2009.

SPD AT IMAGINATION STATION FOR LOCAL YOUTH

CAMPUS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRESENTS $1,200 DONATION FOR K-9 "BO"

On Friday May 1st, Campus Elementary School formally presented Officer Aaron Coates and "Bo" with a $1,200 donation from their school-wide fundraiser labeled "Dough for Bo."  The funds will be used towards purchasing protective body armor to protect Bo in high risk situations.  Thank you to all the students and staff of Campus Elementary School for their generous donation.  Posted May 1, 2009.

K-9 SWEEP OF STREETSBORO HIGH SCHOOL CONDUCTED

On Thursday April 30th, K-9 teams from Streetsboro PD, Windham PD, ODNR, Brimfield Twp. PD, Brooklyn PD, Rocky River PD, East Cleveland PD, Lorain County Metro Parks PD, Olmsted Falls PD, and Brunswick Hills PD conducted a K-9 narcotics search of Streetsboro High School.  The participating agencies, all part of B.A.R.K (Buckeye Area Regional K-9) were in training on this date, and assisted SPD with our sweep.    -- Posted April 30, 2009.

 

 

 

 

 NEW D.A.R.E. VEHICLE PUT INTO SERVICE

SPD recently placed a new D.A.R.E. vehicle with a patriotic theme into service.  The vehicle, a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer SUV, was purchased from Classic GMC in Streetsboro using drug asset/forfeiture funds.  The vehicle's exterior markings were supplied by Graphics Expressions here in Streetsboro.  -- Posted April 15, 2009.  

 

 

 

 

 

NEW K-9 CRUISER IN SERVICE

SPD's new K-9 cruiser is now in service.   The cruiser is equipped with a special temperature control system for the dog, as well as equipment that allows the officer to remotely open the cruiser door from a distance to bring the dog out.  -- Posted March 11, 2009.

 

 

 

 

2009 DARE GRADUATION

On Wed. February 11th, 151 5th graders and staff from Defer Elementary were recognized at a packed Streetsboro High School gymnasium for graduating from the DARE program.   Students received certificates, shirts, gym bags, medals and several other items emblazoned with the DARE logo.  Several students were also recognized for their efforts in the DARE poster contest and the DARE essay contest.  Congratulations to all of the students and to Officer James Wagner for overseeing another successful year of the DARE program.  Click here for photos.   -- Posted March 2, 2009.
